Disney has announced plans to bring the Disney+ and Hulu experience closer together, but that announcement should not be turned into an unsupported claim that every US Hulu subscription or app has already disappeared. Current official help still distinguishes watching Hulu content in Disney+ from using Hulu itself, particularly for Hulu + Live TV.
As reviewed on October 11, 2026, the sources linked here do not establish a single definitive shutdown date for every US Hulu app or account. If your account receives a specific transition notice, use its dates and instructions. A headline about a unified experience is not enough to decide that you must cancel, rebuy, or delete an account.
What Disney actually announced
Disney’s October 2, 2025 announcement said Hulu would replace the Star brand internationally on Disney+ starting October 8 and described an intended unified Disney+ and Hulu app experience for the following year. International branding and a future product roadmap are different questions from the current status of an individual US membership.
The safe interpretation is that Disney is changing how the brands and services are presented and integrated. The announcement by itself does not prove that every feature, device, billing arrangement or profile has migrated on one universal date.
Look for a newer official account notice or Help Center instruction before acting on any claimed deadline. We do not label an app as shut down merely because the planned year has arrived.
What US subscribers should check now
- Open the account that owns the subscription and confirm its current plan and biller.
- Read any transition or activation message shown in that account.
- Check which services are included and whether activation is required.
- Use the official instructions for the device and feature you actually need.
- Keep the existing subscription record until you have verified access and any billing change.
If Hulu plays correctly, that is evidence about your present access, not a guarantee of a permanent future app policy. If Disney+ displays Hulu content, that also does not prove that every Hulu feature is available there.
Hulu content inside Disney+ is not the whole Live TV service
Disney’s current Hulu-through-Disney+ help distinguishes its on-demand experience from Hulu + Live TV. Live TV channels and DVR content still require the Hulu app or Hulu website under that guidance. Do not cancel a Live TV membership on the assumption that a Hulu hub in Disney+ replaces its full channel and recording access.
Our Hulu + Live TV in Disney+ guide explains what to verify. In particular, a live event or another live feature shown in Disney+ is not proof that the complete Hulu + Live TV package has moved there.
Profiles and watch history need separate checks
Disney provides Hulu profile linking for eligible arrangements. Eligibility and rollout can vary, and current exclusions include some Live TV, bundle, add-on and age-related situations. Profile linking is therefore not a universal instruction for every Hulu account.
When eligible, link the correct Hulu profile to the intended Disney+ profile and review content-rating settings. The integration can carry much of the viewing and list information, but not necessarily every item. Our Hulu profile linking guide covers the process, and missing Hulu history in Disney+ covers gaps without promising a complete two-way sync.
Billing changes should be confirmed, not assumed
Changing the app used to watch does not by itself identify the billing provider or stop an existing subscription. Check account billing details and receipts. If an offer asks you to start a new membership, compare it with the one you already have before accepting.
For a bundle, inspect all included services and any activation requirements. Do not create separate memberships solely because one app asks you to sign in. A wrong email or an unactivated benefit can look like a missing subscription.
Questions raised by the transition
Should I delete Hulu now? This guide has not established a universal shutdown requiring that action. Keep the app you need until official instructions for your plan and devices say otherwise.
Will my price automatically change? A product announcement is not a personalized billing notice. Read the account’s offer, renewal details and notices.
Will every saved title move? Disney’s profile-linking guidance describes limits. Check your own linked profile and retain useful records before making irreversible account changes.
How do I verify a claimed shutdown date? Find a dated Disney or Hulu announcement and check whether it explicitly applies to the US app, your plan, and the action being claimed. If it only describes a future roadmap, label the timing uncertain.
Evaluate a new transition notice
Check the notice’s publication date, region, plan and required action. A notice about international branding may not apply to a US subscription; an instruction for on-demand access may not cover Live TV. If a newer official notice supplies a date for your exact arrangement, use that specific evidence rather than this guide’s qualified account of the broader roadmap.
