How to Change Your Hulu Plan Without Canceling

You do not usually need to cancel a direct Hulu subscription just to choose a different available plan. Hulu’s Account page provides Manage Plan and Manage Add-ons controls. The choices depend on your billing arrangement, and the confirmation screen—not a generic guide—should determine the effective date and charge for your change.

This guide helps you change an existing membership. It does not recommend creating a second account, canceling a bundle blindly, or switching plans on the assumption that an old promotion will survive.

Check your current arrangement first

Sign in at Hulu.com in a browser and open Account. Note the current plan, included services, add-ons, next billing date, and Payment Information. A service you can watch is not necessarily a separately billed add-on: it may be included in the package.

If another company bills you, available changes can be different from direct Hulu billing. Hulu’s management guidance has partner-specific instructions, and some plans may be unavailable through a particular provider. Follow the provider shown in the account instead of interpreting a missing plan as a universal Hulu restriction.

For Roku-billed Hulu, read the Hulu and Roku account-management distinction. Current Roku guidance treats Hulu differently from ordinary Roku subscriptions for cancellation, so a generic Roku menu is not enough to establish every Hulu management action.

Change the base plan

  1. Open Account and find Your Subscription.
  2. Select Manage Plan.
  3. Locate the current plan, identified in Hulu’s guidance by its enabled green toggle.
  4. Switch off the current selection and select the available plan you want.
  5. Choose Review Changes.
  6. Read the amount, included services, effective date, and any billing explanation before confirming.

Do not infer the effective date from whether the change is an upgrade or downgrade. The review screen is the best place to see what this particular account will do. If it does not explain a charge or service transition clearly, ask Hulu or the named partner before confirming.

Remove or add a separate add-on

In Manage Add-ons, Hulu’s documented controls use a check mark for a selected add-on. Select it to change the check mark to an X when removing it; use the plus sign to add an available option. Then review and confirm the changes.

Before removing something, check whether it is an optional add-on or part of the base package. Read the review screen to see what remains. A lower displayed plan price may not be the final total if other paid add-ons remain selected.

For comparison, removing a Peacock STARZ add-on has its own service-specific process. Do not transfer button labels or cancellation rules from one streaming service to another.

When Manage Plan is missing or limited

Partner billing: use the partner instructions linked from Hulu’s account or Help Center. The partner may control billing or restrict the menu of available plans. Do not cancel there until you understand how an existing bundle or entitlement will be affected.

Wrong account: match the account email to the bill or receipt. A login with no matching active subscription can show very different options from the account responsible for the recurring charge.

Account problem: if a payment hold or sign-in issue prevents management, resolve that issue with official support. A failed payment is not a confirmed plan downgrade.

The desired offer is absent: it may not be offered to that account or through that biller. A public promotional price does not establish your eligibility. Ask support to explain the available choices without assuming a workaround is safe.

Verify the saved change

After confirmation, reopen Account. Check the selected plan, remaining add-ons, and any scheduled-change date. Save the confirmation and compare the next bill with the terms you accepted. If the plan appears unchanged but a future effective date is shown, the change may be scheduled rather than immediate.

Test access after the effective date. If a feature you expected is missing, first compare it with the new package description. A plan change can alter what is included; troubleshooting the device before checking the package can waste time.

If the account unexpectedly shows two memberships or two different providers, pause further purchases and ask the billers to identify each subscription. Deleting an app or changing a profile does not consolidate separate billing records.

Compare the complete package

Before confirming, compare the current and proposed package item by item: base plan, paid add-ons, included services, effective date and total shown. This prevents a removed add-on from being mistaken for a base-plan downgrade, and helps identify exactly which feature changed if playback differs afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Must I cancel first? Use Manage Plan for an available change in the existing account. Some partner transitions need different steps; obtain the relevant instructions before canceling.

Will every change happen immediately? This guide makes no universal timing or proration promise. Review the effective date and amount presented to your account.

What if I want no Hulu for a while? Compare pausing with canceling. A cheaper plan still renews unless its billing is separately stopped.
