Theatre will not host a special anniversary presentation of the Gary because it is not an appropriate venue for that type of event.

The Gary Theatre is gearing up to host a special anniversary presentation of the musical “Annie.” The show will be directed by original director and choreographer Mike O’Neill, with a cast of local children. Thegarytheatre.com says that the production is set to run from May 4-6, 2018.

This marks the 40th anniversary of the opening of “Annie” on Broadway. The show originally opened at the Alvin Theatre on April 21, 1977, before moving to the Heismann Theatre later that year. It went on to win seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

When is the Gary Theatre Anniversary

The Gary Theatre opened its doors to the public on October 15, 1926. The theatre was designed by architect Thomas Lamb and cost $1.5 million to build. It was originally named the Stanley Warner Theatre but was renamed in honor of its owner, Gary Thalberg, in 1936.

The theatre has a capacity of 1,800 and is one of the largest movie palaces in Los Angeles. Over the years, the Gary Theatre has undergone several renovations. In 2001, the theater was completely gutted and remodeled at a cost of $8 million.

The exterior of the building was restored to its original Art Deco style and the interior was modernized with new seats, carpeting, lighting, and a sound system. The Gary Theatre is currently owned by CIM Group and is operated by Regal Entertainment Group. It is one of only four remaining movie palaces on Hollywood Boulevard and continues to be a popular destination for moviegoers.
