Netflix Login: Sign In on TV, Phone and Computer

Netflix on a smartphone in front of a television showing profile selection

To log in to Netflix, open netflix.com/login or the official Netflix app and use the sign-in method offered for your account. A sign-in code, an account password and a TV activation prompt are different tools. Choose the one shown on your device rather than treating every failure as a forgotten password.

This guide is for existing US viewers trying to reach the right account, connect a television or recover access. It does not promise access outside Netflix’s household rules or turn a canceled membership into an active subscription. Instructions were checked against Netflix’s Help Center on October 14, 2026; buttons can differ by device and account.

Start with the right login destination

Type the official address yourself when possible. A search advertisement, unsolicited message or unfamiliar support website is not needed to sign in. Check the address before entering an account password or payment information. If a page asks you to buy a separate “activation service,” stop and return to Netflix.

On a shared computer, decide whether you want the account to remain signed in before beginning. On a television, confirm that you are working in the Netflix app rather than the TV manufacturer’s account screen. A Samsung, Roku or Apple device account is not automatically your Netflix account.

Choose account credentials or a profile sign-in

Netflix currently supports the primary account email or phone number and, where configured, an email added to a secondary profile. Password sign-in is for primary account credentials; a profile-linked address uses a code or link. Do not invent a separate password for that profile. The account owner can help identify which kind of address you have.

For example, a family member might recognize their profile name but not know the primary subscription email. Entering that display name into an email field will not identify the account. Before resetting anything, write down whether you have the owner’s address, a verified phone number or your own profile-linked address. This prevents changes to the wrong account.

Sign in on a computer, phone or tablet

  1. Open the official Netflix website or app and select Sign In.
  2. Enter the applicable email or primary account phone number.
  3. Follow the code prompt, or use Get Help → Use password instead when offered.
  4. Complete the requested verification and check the account or profiles that appear.

Netflix’s current sign-in instructions describe a four-digit email or text code with a 15-minute lifetime. Password mode can still trigger a code message, so receiving a message does not necessarily mean you selected the wrong mode. Phone numbers added to a profile must be verified before they can be used to sign in.

Before trying again, check what actually failed: the identifier, the delivery of a message, acceptance of the code, or the password. Keep the exact error text. “I can’t log in” is too broad to choose the next step, while “the address is accepted but no message arrives” identifies a delivery problem.

Connect a TV without confusing its code with an email code

On supported TV sign-in screens, you can scan the displayed QR code with a phone camera and follow the Sign in to TV prompt. Another official route uses netflix.com/tv2; Netflix lists netflix.com/atv for Apple TV. Follow your device’s displayed instructions. If no compatible code appears, use the remote sign-in option.

Keep the TV on its sign-in screen while completing the phone or browser step. If you have several televisions, work on one at a time and confirm which screen changes. Do not approve a login request for a device you did not initiate. A QR code photographed earlier is less useful than the current prompt on the device in front of you.

The TV connection step and an email sign-in code are not interchangeable. Enter information only in the corresponding field. Once the TV reaches the expected profiles, choose your own profile and test a title. If the profiles belong to somebody else, stop before changing their settings and sign out of that account.

No code arrives, or the code is rejected

Check the destination address or phone number for typing mistakes. For email delivery, inspect spam, junk and promotional folders. Use the resend control if needed. Netflix says requested sign-in links and codes expire after 15 minutes; use the most recently requested message when several are present.

If Netflix says too many codes were requested, use password sign-in where eligible or wait before requesting another. The official troubleshooting page distinguishes incorrect codes, delivery problems and temporary technical failures. Match the message rather than continually requesting more codes.

Practical example: you request a code on the laptop, then another on the phone, but copy the earlier email. Record which request is newest and return to the intended sign-in screen. Reducing simultaneous attempts makes it easier to tell whether the next result represents progress. Do not forward codes to someone claiming to fix the account.

A password is wrong or forgotten

Use Netflix Login Help for the account owner’s recovery route. Netflix offers email recovery and SMS recovery when an appropriate number is linked. Its email reset link expires after 24 hours; the SMS password-reset verification code expires after 20 minutes. These are different from the 15-minute sign-in code.

After changing the password, update the saved Netflix entry in your password manager. Netflix recommends signing out devices during the reset and provides an account-screen confirmation plus an email. A secondary profile email does not have its own password to reset through this process.

Before entering a new password on the TV, test it carefully on the official website. Check capitalization and the address being used. Avoid repeatedly overwriting a working saved credential until you know a reset completed. If several people use the account legitimately, explain that devices may need the new credentials without sharing them in a public chat.

You do not recognize or cannot access the email

Netflix’s recovery guidance varies by payment method. Card-billed customers may see an account lookup in Login Help; availability is not universal. Third-party or bundled customers should find their provider’s Netflix billing article. Gift-card and other-payment cases can require Netflix support. If you cannot sign in and no longer have access to either the email or phone number, contact Netflix.

Make an evidence list before contacting support: the account address you remember, the billing provider, the most recent receipt date and which devices still work. Do not post card details in comments or send them to an unverified support address. If a secure official recovery screen asks for billing information, inspect the destination before proceeding.

If an account is still open on one device, protect that working session while you investigate. Do not immediately erase every app’s data: doing so can remove a useful clue about the account in use. Note the available account information, then follow Netflix’s official recovery guidance.

One device works, another does not

Netflix identifies this as a possible device or home-network issue, not necessarily an account-wide failure. On a TV, its troubleshooting includes checking the displayed credentials and fully restarting the device. The official network steps also address modem/router restarts and altered connection settings.

Compare the two devices before making changes. Are they using the same account? Is the failing screen a login prompt, a household warning or a playback error? Does the television reach the internet at all? Change one thing, retry once and note the result. This creates a useful record instead of an uncertain sequence of resets.

App-data clearing is not harmless housekeeping: Netflix warns that clearing Android app data removes downloads and signs you out. Use the applicable device instructions and have recovery information ready. A factory reset of the entire television should not be your first response to a single app’s login problem.

If the app itself is missing, that is an installation issue rather than a credential failure. Hisense owners can consult our Hisense TV app-installation guide to distinguish the TV platform from Netflix account access.

A household warning is not a password diagnosis

A message saying a device is not part of the Netflix Household requires Netflix’s household-specific instructions. Changing the password alone does not establish household eligibility. Netflix documents verification, household-update and temporary travel options, depending on the screen and situation.

Identify whether the device is your home television, a newly added home device or a device used while traveling. Use the applicable official option; do not repeatedly change household settings simply to suppress an unexplained message. Temporary access is not a promise of permanent sharing outside the household.

You reach Netflix but see a signup or restart prompt

Successful identification of an account and active viewing entitlement are separate questions. Check whether the correct account was entered and whether you previously paused or canceled it. Do not authorize another payment just because a login attempt leads to a purchase screen.

Our Netflix pause-versus-cancel guide explains the billing distinction. If a receipt names Roku, our Roku billing-identification guide helps you verify who collected the payment. A device brand and a payment provider are not always the same thing.

Verify that the problem is actually solved

  • The expected account or profiles appear, not a stranger’s account.
  • The intended device remains signed in after you reopen the app.
  • A title plays, or any remaining playback/household error is identified separately.
  • No unexpected new subscription or restart payment was approved.
  • Any password change has an official confirmation.

Record the successful method and device without saving a live code. If support is still needed, provide the exact remaining message and the steps that changed it. This separates a partially repaired login from a fully functioning viewing session.

Frequently asked questions

Is a profile PIN the Netflix password?

Do not enter a profile-access PIN into an account-password field. Identify the screen’s request first; account sign-in and profile access solve different problems.

Why did Netflix send a code after I chose a password?

Netflix’s current guidance says a code can still be sent in password mode. Follow the method selected on your screen.

Should I create another account if my email is not recognized?

First check spelling, older addresses, profile credentials and billing evidence. Creating another subscription can complicate the investigation.

Does signing out stop billing?

Do not treat leaving an app as a verified cancellation. Check membership and billing status separately if stopping renewal is your goal.
